Power Electronics: Engineering Innovation and Research for Idea-to-Product Transition

Power electronics has emerged as an enabling technology in deployment of next generation of systems including transportation systems, motor drives, robotics, renewable energies, smart grids and data centers, among many others. The demand for higher efficiency, enhanced reliability higher power density, specific power and better thermal management poses stringent challenges for these power electronic converters to accommodate. This presentation will put forward novel approaches and leading efforts proposed by ASU’s Power Electronics and Control Engineering (PEACE) Laboratory (led by Prof. Ayan Mallik) toward designing high-density, highly-efficient power converters with enhanced reliability for the applications in more-electric-aircrafts (MEA), next generation onboard chargers for electric vehicles, data center power supplies, solar PV-interfaced electronics, etc. This interactive session will also present live online demonstrations of operations of hardware prototypes developed by PEACE lab. Also, a new direction in machine learning based multi-objective optimization for power electronic systems will be discussed in this presentation.
