Diplomacy in action - character driven leadership in U.S. foreign policy and U.S. embassies

  • Lieutenant General (ret) Benjamin C. Freakley, Special Advisor to the President for Leadership Initiatives and Professor of Practice

Ambassador (ret) Michael Polt, Ambassador (ret) Edward O'Donnell, and Lieutenant General (ret) Benjamin Freakley, all Professors of Practice will lead participants in an interactive session to demonstrate group decision making in US. embassies or interagency teams and how tough decisions are made in foreign policy. Examples will be provided of U.S. leaders and diplomats who were "character-driven leaders", making the right decision, at the right time, for the right reasons for a cause greater than self. Interactive role play will include problems, or decisions with potential unforeseen consequences for the participants to choose the best course of action.
