What you'll learn:

Writing and developing a superior project proposal contains multiple elements and is an extremely important part of the beginning stages of a good project. The developing project proposals course covers the development of project proposals by interested contractors in response to a customer’s request for proposal. When the customer decides which contractor to engage to perform the project, the customer and the contractor sign an agreement.

Concepts in this course support the following Project Management Knowledge Areas of the PMI Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide):

    Project Procurement Management

This course is based on the PMBOK 6th edition, and may not fully prepare learners for the revised PMP exam. However, this course still qualifies for PDU's for any existing PMP to maintain their PMI certification.


Module and Content:

A lecture clip from ASU faculty introduces the topic. Students will also view a tutorial video that focuses on writing winning proposals. A Capstone video features a real-world case about competing for construction contracts, giving students a chance to apply the concepts they’ve learned in this course.


Learning Objectives:

  • Build relationships with customers and partners by building trust and using effective communication.
  • Create credible proposals by differentiating from the competition and offering the best value in a well-written selling document.
  • Identify two main types of contracts--fixed-cost and cost reimbursement.
  • Describe proposal success by determining the win ratio.

Denise Bates, PhD

Denise E. Bates holds a Master’s Certification in Project Management and is Assistant Professor of Leadership and Interdisciplinary Studies at Arizona State University. She studies leadership in Indigenous communities, with a particular emphasis on inter-generational mentorship, project implementation and community development.
