Developed and taught by Gary Naumann - who brings a quarter century of undergraduate and MBA instruction and a lifetime of small business experience to your learning experience - the courses in the Small Business Management Certificate program teach you not only how to succeed, but also how to learn from the mistakes of others.

The video lessons in each course serve as short movies of the future - your future - helping you write your own success story. After all, small business entrepreneurship is a very personal endeavor.



Courses:

Take one course at a time to build on your knowledge as you complete the certificate program. Courses may also be taken independently, with no certificate requirement.

Course 1: Getting Started in Your Small Business

You will start with the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, debunk entrepreneurship myths, assess your readiness to move your plans forward, and focus on identifying your opportunities.

Course 2: Evaluating the Opportunity for Your Small Business

Do you know what you don’t know about your entrepreneurial opportunities? That’s exactly what this course is designed to teach you, by addressing tough questions around your opportunities.

Course 3: Developing Your Business Model/Business Plan

How will you make money and when? What resources will you need to accomplish this and how will you get them? These questions and others are addressed in your business model and plan.

Course 4: Launch, Grow, and Harvest Your Small Business

This course builds on your progress. It addresses the launch timing and milestones, financing considerations, managing growth, planning for challenges and executing through to harvesting your success.

The ASU Certificate in Small Business Management is designed for anyone who is considering launching a small business, as well as existing small business owners/managers who are looking to improve their performance across the board.


Meet the instructor


Gary Naumann, MBA

Gary Naumann is the Hahnco Professor of Entrepreneurship and a Professor of Practice at the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. Gary has taught small business management/entrepreneurship courses across undergraduate, Full-time MBA, Evening MBA and Executive MBA platforms over the past 25 years, both here at the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University and previously at the University of California Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business.

Prior to and concurrent with his teaching, he has worked with and for small businesses in the fields of accounting, general management, banking, corporate finance and consulting. In addition, he has co-founded, built, operated and sold his own small business.

Gary holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Missouri – St. Louis.
