What you'll learn:

Prepare participants with the core knowledge needed in order to pass the IIBA Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA) exam. The certificate credential is required by many employers who are seeking to fulfill IT Business Analyst roles within their organizations. IT Business Analysts bridge the technical and business sides of the organization to design, develop and deploy digital technologies.

Curriculum includes:

  • Fundamentals of business analysis - including IT lifecycle, problem-solving methods, requirements gathering, design thinking and user story creation for system design.
  • Fundamentals of project management - initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing of projects; portfolio and program management concepts; Agile, Scrum and Kanban tools and concepts.
  • Business modeling tools and techniques - spreadsheet modeling; business process modeling; data visualization.

What you'll do:

Program consists of 10 weeks of faculty facilitated reading assignments, exercises and labs with a weekly live online session, including industry professionals, to discuss that week's topic.

What you'll receive:

Upon exam passage (cost covered by AZNext), participants will receive an IIBA Entry Certificate in Business Analysis. In addition, participants will have access to AZNext's network of industry partners for potential job placement.

Arizona Workforce Training Accelerator Partnership for Next Generation Jobs (AZNext). We are a public-private partnership to address the acute need for mid- to high-skilled workforce in information technology (IT)/cybersecurity and advanced manufacturing within Arizona and across the nation. AZNext brings together employers, a Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) workforce development network, state-level economic development organizations, and industry partnerships, while creating a model for replication across the Southwest and the US.

Led by Arizona State University (ASU), AZNext programs include three key innovations: (a) modular, flexible, and progressively higher-skill career pathways in IT/cybersecurity and advanced manufacturing sectors; (b) new flexible ASU digital courseware (convert existing and new courses) on an innovative digital platform; and (c) next-level collaborations with employers and among industry associations and workforce development organizations to provide various training experiences. All provided at no charge to the participant.

Meet the Instructors


Jason Nichols - clinical Associate Professor & Assistant Chair and Teaching Liaison

Jason Nichols is a Clinical Associate Professor, Assistant Department Chair, and Departmental Teaching Lead for the Department of Information Systems in the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. He has developed curriculum for highly evaluated and successful courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level, spanning the fields of information systems and business data analytics. He has contributed to numerous grant-funded initiatives, in partnership with organizations including the Department of Defense, NASA, and the Department of Labor. Through his work on these initiatives, and his affiliations with centers of excellence such as CAPS Research, he has extensive experience developing, hosting, and delivering executive workshops and trainings for many fortune 500 firms.


Alan Simon - Principal Lecturer

Alan Simon is a Principal Lecturer in information systems with the W. P. Carey School of Business at ASU. He has authored 32 technology, business, and career books including the original Data Warehousing For Dummies. He is a long-time “pragmatic thought leader” in business intelligence and analytics, data warehousing, enterprise information architecture, corporate performance management, and related disciplines. He is an expert at risk-managed incorporation of leading-edge concepts, architecture, and technology into high-impact, high-value solutions.


Saju Skaria, MS, MBA, DBA

Dr. Saju Skaria is a globally experienced business executive and presents broad expertise in information technology, outsourcing, and cultural diversity. He assists clients in transforming their business to become modern digital enterprises and is an expert in creating a unique ecosystem of customers, partners, and service professionals to deliver value-based IT solutions for business benefits to Fortune 1000 global corporations.

Dr. Skaria currently serves with Tata Consulting Services as a Senior Business Executive, anchoring a multi-billion-dollar business portfolio covering multiple industry verticals. Dr. Skaria has an extensive background in diverse industries including the manufacturing/industrial sector with Aerospace, high-tech, electronics, Automotive, Process, and Industrial sub-verticals. He has also expertise in the financial services sector.

Dr. Skaria holds a Doctorate in Business Administration. He also has an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, and an MBA in Marketing. He is the member of several professional bodies including TiE – Global Entrepreneurship Organization, IEEE - Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and PMI- Project Management Institute.

Dr. Skaria has been involved with multiple business, technology, socio-cultural, and charitable organizations from an early age and has significantly contributed to the cause of technology, education, and social upliftment. Currently, he is The Chairman and CEO of ‘The Skaria Foundation’ (www.skariafoundation.org) focusing on educational cause of young adults. He is also Member of the Board with ‘Kids at Hope’ (www.kidsathope.org), an Arizona State University charitable organization focusing on at risk children.
