ASU Continuing and Professional Education is an educational provider for the Project Management Institute.
Scrum Master Certified (SMC™) professionals have a practical, working knowledge of Scrum that equips them to implement and work in a Scrum environment. The purpose of the exam is to confirm the applicants have achieved sufficient understanding of how to apply Scrum in the projects and to tailor Scrum in a particular scenario. SMC™ professionals are facilitators who ensure that the Scrum Team is provided with an environment conducive to completing the project successfully. The Scrum Master guides, facilitates, and teaches Scrum practices to everyone involved in the project; clears impediments for the team; and, ensures that Scrum processes are being followed. Successful candidates will be awarded the Scrum Master Certified (SMC™) certification by SCRUMstudy after passing the certification exam.

What you'll learn:
Participants will learn how to implement a Scrum project that involves a collaborative effort to create a new product, service, or other result as defined in the Project Vision Statement. Successful candidates will be awarded the Scrum Master Certified (SMC™) certification by SCRUMstudy after passing the certification exam. A key strength of this program is providing participants to apply Scrum methods to create cross-functional, self-organized, and empowered teams who divide their work into short, concentrated work cycles called Sprints. The focus of Scrum on value driven delivery helps Scrum Teams deliver results as early in the project as possible.

This certification is appropriate for anyone who is interested in working as a Scrum Master or for someone who is already a Scrum master in his organization. Scrum Master is an important role in any Scrum team and need not be a technology expert to be effective. Moreover, although Scrum is popular in the IT industry, it can be used effectively across different industries. The SBOK Guide, on which the SMC course is based on, can be used as an effective guide for implementation.

Warick Pond, Assistant Vice President
Warick is the Assistant Vice President for the Planning and Programs team. In his role at ASU, he works with diverse teams resulting in the successful implementation of the tools, techniques, and methodology being utilized by the UTO to assess, prioritize, manage, and monitor the hundreds of active projects comprising the institution’s IT portfolio. With ten years in higher education and seven in the private market, Warick brings an unique perspective to building a PMO. His most notable programs include managing the technology efforts for Starbuck's College Achievement Plan, and eAdvisor Tracking which won Information Weekly's Top 500 Technology Innovators award. What are PDUs?
PDUs stand for Professional Development Units. PDUs are the measuring unit used to quantify your professional development as part of PMIs Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) program. 1 PDU = 1 hour of learning/activity.
How do I claim my PDUs for these courses?
If you have a PMI number and you completed the course, ASU will submit your eligible PDUs for you. You should receive an e-mail from PMI.org indicating you have successfully submitted your PDU request. The e-mail will be sent to the address you have in your PMI.org profile. To claim your own PDUs please see PDU submission instructions.
When reporting PDU activities, is any supporting documentation required?
You do not need supporting documentation to report PDUs and renew your credential. When reporting your PDUs through CCRS, you will be directed to include specific information about the activity in the PDU claim form.
NOTE: PMI recommends you maintain a personal folder for all PDU-related documentation and keep this documentation for at least 18 months after your CCR cycle has ended. If you are randomly selected for an audit, you will need to provide this documentation

What is the difference between Scrum vs. Traditional Project Management?
Traditional project management emphasizes on conducting detailed upfront planning for the project with emphasis on fixing the scope, cost and schedule - and managing those parameters. Whereas, Scrum encourages data-based, iterative decision making in which the primary focus is on delivering products that satisfy customer requirements.

How do I schedule my SMC™ exam?
Instructions are provided during your course on how to schedule your exam. SCRUMstudy certification exams are proctored using the online WebEx based proctor system. Individuals taking online examinations are required to use this system. Cheating on examinations is contrary to both academic integrity standards and to ethical standards set by SCRUMstudy.
What is the SMC™ exam format?
a. Multiple choice b. 100 questions per exam c. No negative marks for wrong answers d. 120 minutes duration e. Proctored online exam f. Current pass rate: 95%
How will I know if I passed my exam?
Your results will be provided immediately after completion of the exam.
Can I reschedule my exam?
There is a $50 fee issued by SCRUMStudy with any changes to a scheduled exam.
Do I have to retake the course if I do not pass my exam?
If you are unable to pass the exam, you can schedule again and take a maximum of two Free Exam Retakes.

A Guide to the Scrum Body of Knowledge (SBOK™ Guide) provides guidelines for the successful implementation of Scrum-the most popular Agile product development and project delivery methodology.
