What the certificate program includes:

In this certificate-earning program, you will have access to five courses ASU Continuing and Professional Education offers related to critical thinking and creative problem solving. You will receive the following courses:

Module and Content:

Students will take five courses which contain videos for learning and assessments to check their understandings of the concepts.

In this certificate program you’ll learn how to systematically solve problems, manage your time, how critical thinking really involves examining information carefully, logically, and always asking ourselves if it makes sense. You will strengthen their communication skills by learning a basic understanding of listening principles, persuasive messages, and the role of negotiation, office politics, and meetings. You will learn about the most common types of team roles, the group development process, and practical advice for establishing an effective work environment for teams. Lastly, you will learn what it takes to be a critical thinker, creative problem solver, how leading a team can contribute to your career, and how to be effective in this role.

Robert Kirsch, PhD

Dr. Robert Kirsch is Assistant Professor of Leadership and Interdisciplinary Studies at Arizona State University. His research focuses on theories of institutional change, development and evolution, as well as cultivating critical perspectives in leadership theory.

Janice Lawhorn, PhD

Dr. Janice A. Lawhorn holds Master’s Degrees in Computer Information Systems and Elementary Education and a PhD in Education Technology Management. She is an Associate Faculty in the leadership and interdisciplinary studies department at Arizona State University. Dr. Lawhorn is also the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction at Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, Arizona. Her passion is teaching business and computer courses.

David Thomas, PhD

David A. Thomas is an experienced university teacher, management consultant, and business executive. David holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology as well as a Master of Business Administration Degree, both from the University of Southern California. His primary areas of expertise center on key factors that affect human performance, including adult learning and motivational theories, project management and team leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving.

Marie Wallace, PhD

Dr. Marie Wallace is an applied anthropologist who specializes in social services, language usage and digital transformation in organizations. She earned her doctorate from American University and has postdoctoral work in technological literacies.

G. Layne Gneiting, PhD

Dr. Layne has been called the Indiana Jones of Education. When he’s not teaching Leadership and Integrative Thinking he’s leading cycling adventures in stunning places across the globe. Canvas is the online learning management system that is used by ASU continuing and professional education online offerings. Once you have created an account and enrolled in a non-credit CPE course or program, you will be able to access those by logging into the Canvas LMS.

How do I register?

Review the “Enrolling in the ASU Team Leader Training Certificate” or visit the program registration URL and follow the prompts.

What is the expected time commitment?

Each course takes 1.5 hours, and the 5-course program is expected to take 7-8 hours to complete.

How long will I have access to the courses?

You will never lose access to the course, as long as you keep your account, you will have access to the content.
