Importance of Principles of Programming Languages:
Programming languages are one of the most important and direct tools for the construction of a computer system: in a modern computer different languages are routinely used for different levels of abstraction. Programming language is important because it defines the relationship, semantics and grammar which allows the programmers to effectively communicate with the machines that they program.
This short review course and deficiency exam will cover the following course objectives:
- Understand the salient features in the landscape of programming languages
- Understand the essence of defining concepts of programming languages, so to allow critical choice about the level of abstraction
Who this short review course and deficiency exam is designed for:
Students who are either admitted with prerequisites to graduate programs in Computer Science in the School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence (SCAI) at Arizona State University or students who are interested in becoming eligible to apply to one of those programs. Students may also complete this short review course and deficiency exam if they have general interest in the topic area or are looking for a refresher on the principles of programming languages.
The course syllabus is available here.
