Meet the instructors


Aaron Sims, Founder / CEO

Aaron Sims, the visual creator behind some of this generation’s most unforgettable cinema creatures, began his career over two decades ago as a special effects makeup artist. His pioneering techniques in the world of visual effects influenced the face of character and creature design in Film, Television, Games, Previs, and VFX early on in their application. Aaron Sims Creative was formed in order to bring together a wide range of the world’s most talented concept and visual effects artists and create memorable characters, creatures, VFX, costumes, and key scenes. His unparalleled skill and dedication to consistently creating stunning content for all platforms of visual entertainment has made ASC a premiere entertainment studio.


Chase Friedman, Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy

Chase Friedman began his career in independent film & television with Electric Entertainment working on a number of hit cable series and award-winning films. In his eventual transition to the digital media landscape, he championed the pillars of storytelling & premium production value as a content creator, producer, and consultant for a vast array of media networks (Turner Entertainment Networks, Joyus.com, Maker Studios, People.com, Newegg.com) in addition to domestic & international consumer brands (Samsung, Intel, Acer, L’Oreal, Proactiv, and more). In the Social Media space, Chase has collaborated with a gamut of elite YouTube/Twitter/Instagram influencers with a cumulative reach of 10+ Million Followers and 1+ Billion video views. In 2016 he teamed with Aaron Sims Creative to lead the development of brand strategy and marketing, with the goal of expanding the studio's presence to new audiences, markets, and business development opportunities.


Michael Pecchia, Executive Producer

Michael Pecchia reunites with Aaron Sims after 14 years since their first collaboration. As Executive Producer at ASC, Michael is a key player in building the ASC brand and visual effects efforts, overseeing all aspects of production from client collaboration to final asset delivery. Michael brings 23 years of experience of global brand building management, and visual effects artistry most recently as Director of Global Development at Prime Focus and as a digital artist on such blockbuster films including Academy-Award winning LOTR: The Two Towers, Emmy-Award winning John Adams, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Frank Hubert's Dune.


Adam Collis, Film Spark Director and Professor of Practice, MY

Adam Collis is a filmmaker and film professor dedicated to making distinctive feature films and to giving his students one of a kind opportunities to learn filmmaking directly from world class filmmakers from both studio and independent realms. He accomplishes this by connecting his students and Hollywood pros through video conferences, at in-class visits, and on actual feature film sets. Six months after graduating from University of South California's (USC) School of Cinematic Arts, Professor Collis directed the 20th Century Fox feature film, Sunset Strip (2000), starring Simon Baker (The Mentalist) and Jared Leto (Dallas Buyer's Club). Professor Collis has directed short form and feature length documentaries. Additionally, he earned his MBA from UCLA's Anderson School of Business where he led a six-month, six-person research study on new business models for Independent Films. In 2014, he produced and directed Car Dogs, starring Patrick Adams (Suits), George Lopez, Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), and Oscar winner Octavia Spencer (The Help). Next up for Professor Collis is The Long Blue Yonder, which is being produced by Brunson Green (The Help) and has Tye Sheridan (Mud) attached in the lead role. Professor Collis also has a particular interest in helping young filmmakers get their footing in Hollywood. As a professor of practice of film directing at Arizona State University, he's created classes, programs and internships, including the successful Skype-screening series, Hollywood Invades Tempe, which hosted more than a dozen major Hollywood filmakers and executives.



Jason Scott, School Film, Dance & Theatre Asst Director & Asst Professor

Jason Davids Scott is an Assistant Professor and the Interim Assistant Director for Film and Media Production in the School of Film, Dance and Theatre. Dr. Scott has also worked for over thirty years as a public relations/marketing consultant for a wide variety of entertainment firms, and also has experience in feature film development and short film production. His first book, "Everything But the Script: Professional Writing in the Entertainment Industry," will be published by Cognella in Fall 2019.
