WaterSim: Using Interactive Visualization in Decision Making and Resource Management
People around the world are facing water sustainability issues driven by population growth, economic and political trends, climate change, and even war. These trends and events are complex and dynamic making the future of water sustainability highly uncertain. In this environment of uncertainty how do communities choose to manage water to sustain their economy, quality of life, and natural environment?
In this workshop, participants will learn how to begin to answer this question using WaterSim, an interactive visualization tool that uses systems dynamics models to explore scenarios about the future of water sustainability. Users can explore how different community policies and environmental factors such as drought may affect the future of water supplies and demand and impact water sustainability using indicators that represent different viewpoints of sustainability.
