How immunity works- why developing vaccines takes time.

Designing a vaccine that provides immunity and causes little or no side effects is no simple task. A coronavirus vaccine, in particular, poses its own unique challenges. This is a review for lay persons of how our immune system works to protect us, and how we design vaccines to stimulate that process before we actually get sick.
