Global Engineering Mindset
In this workshop series, students will learn and experience what it means to be a globally competent engineering professional. During the three 90-minute interactive sessions, students will develop an understanding of global competence and how it applies to engineering practice. Students will explore how global competencies such as cultural self-awareness, openness, and empathy are critical characteristics of entrepreneurially minded engineers. Through case studies and activities, students will learn about and apply intercultural competence to situations relevant to global engineering practice. As a result of this series, students will understand why it is important for those entering technical professions to have “the knowledge, ability, and predisposition to work effectively with people who define problems differently than they do.” (Downey, et. al, 2006). Students will evaluate their own competencies through reflection, and will develop plans to continue their development as globally competent entrepreneurially minded engineers through activities in FSE and at ASU.
